Overall a reasonably good experience. It started great. Lovely atmosphere, great looking bar, nice wines reasonably priced. Decided to have dinner. Went for the fixed menu at £14,95 for two courses. Started with the pate which was wonderful. So good I could have eaten several more, instead of a main course. Followed by the hunters chicken with thrice cooked chips.
Now things weren't quite so good. The bacon with the chicken was fantastic. The bacon was glazed and as I said, really really good. The tomato garnish had been on the griddle and was also good. The thrice cooked chips? Would have been great if they had been "real" chips and not frozen ones that were (presumably boiled), then fried and allowed to chill until being ordered and then fried again.
Chips on the outside but ultimately, frozen chips.

Then the hunters chicken itself. As many cooking programs would have you believe, the star of the show. No. Overcooked and dry. A real disappointment.

Then the final straw. I noticed a boand above the fire which showed a saving on your dinner that instead of £14,95 for two course it was only £11,50 Monday through Friday. Fantastic. So even better value than I thought. When I went to pay I was charged the higher amount. When I pointed out the board I was told this was the lunch price and the dinner price but that's not what the board said.

I appreciate that it's only £3,50 but that's not the point. It's misleading.and should state that these prices related to lunch and dinner.

Would I come again? Yes. But... for me, the ship was spoiled for a halfpenny of tar.

Usual frozen badly cooked corporate chain rubbish. Fish fried in oil that must have been so old and unclean that it became inedible. Badly poured pint and steak that is best described as mediocre. Just about to have the puddings... That probably also come with free refunds...
